what kind of loss in velocity can i expect going from a 26" barrel to a 22" barrel for my swift?

I read somewhere that it's 40FPS for every inch that you cut off. I dont remember if that was an average for most calibers or if it was caliber specific. Larry in western Ky.

What you lose in velocity will be gained in muzzle blast. For high-performance loads, 26-28 inch barrels are a good choice.

FWIW, QuickLOAD says about 180 fps with 50 grain bullets.
