What do you think the minimum velocity should be with a 9 twist 223 for the 75 AMAX in order to get them to stabilize at 300 + yards.

I could not get the 75g bullets to stabilize in my 1:9 twist, regardless of load, had to drop back to 68/69g to get the accuracy. My Target load for the 69s is 23.8g of 2520 with CCI450 primers.....shoots a little under 1MOA at 300yds in my 24" bbl.
My 1:7.75 twist rifle absolutely loves the 75g AMAXs...shoots sub 1/2 MOA at 300yds and 1/2 MOA at 600yds

The 75 gr A-Max is at best marginally stable shot from a 1:9 twist barrel; I get the best results from a 1:7. You'll probably do best with the Hornady 75 gr BTHP, which has a higher BC than the 68/69 gr bullets and is stable from a 1:9 twist.

in my Savage , 223 McGowan barrel, 1:9 twist, I get great groups using the 75 gr. A-Maxes.
I have not shot 300 yds. only 100 & 200 yds.
using H-4895, & Varget at right around 2950-2975 vel., they shoot better than I can.
I had mentioned on another post, before I bought the McGowan , & Shilen 22-250 barrels for my Savage, I called Hornady tech's. they told me the 1:9 will stabilize the 75 A-Maxes , but if you want to shoot the 80 gr. A-Max's, you need a 1:8 twist.
maybe you can check to see if the barrel is really a 1:9 twist.
I'm very pleased with the 75 gr. A-Max's in both my 223, & 22-250.

I agree. I got good groups at 100, but 300 yards were like patterns. I was using 748. The load I tried using IMR 4895 seems to want to group at 300. I haven't chrono'ed this load and that is why I asked the velocity question. It seems the 75 AMAX is right on the edge for stability in the Savage 1:9 twist barrel.

Could not get the 75 AMax to stabilize in a Ruger 9 twist Mini 14 Target thumbhole rifle. Great with 69s. Sold the rifle.

Faster than is safe to attempt to acheive.

My 1:9 CZ won't stabilize the 75 VMAX. Your most likely going to need a faster twist.
