Drever gave you some very good advice, all fellows I shoot F class with the new downsized targets are getting rid of there .250min scopes and going for .125min on benchrest models
at 300 meters you can be on left or right of bull and must shoot off center, not with the .125min scopes

As far as the parallax graduations being off on the BR model, the answer is yes, they all are.
Here's what I do. Our range has target backers out to 850 yards so I simply set the parallax at each yardage and using a fine paint brush I mark the bell with dots of white nail polish to match the corresponding yardages. One dot for 100, two dots for 200, three dots for 300, etc. etc. etc. untill I reach infinity. The nail polish wears like iron and so far even after years of use I've not had to touch it up.

I Have been putting off buying a NF as well.Money being a little tight currently. But have a new custom rifle sitting in safe for near 3 months now,the good thing is it lets me think long and hard about what to buy.Leaning towards the 8-32 as well- thinking it will be more versatile...I like the high power, but also would like to turn it down to 8 for close up shooting as well.I am all ears!

The difference between 8 and 12 power for close up shooting is negligible. However the difference between 32 and 42 power at the longer yardages is quite a bit more. The question you need to ask yourself is after you buy the 8-32 are you going to say "Gee, I wish I'd have bought the 12-42 because it sure would be nice to have that extra ten power!"? I'd strongly suggest going with the 12-42 and I'll bet you never look back.
