I plan to bed the barrelled action when I get it back. I may use the aluminum Devcon F again, but I don't have any more release agent. What would any of you recommend? Thanks

Johnsons paste wax--I use it with devcon aluminum putty as well

give a couple coats then lightly buff it

First, take a hairdryer and warm the action and Johnson paste wax. Then apply a medium coat of paste wax to the action, keep it smooth, and "lightly" buff the action when dry. This method will give you a truly "showboat" finish with Devcon.Use Playdough to fill any "holes" that you do not want the Devcon running into. If you are installing the pillars at the same time, be sure to use degreaser on the pillars so they "glue" well to the stock.

John, I know this isn't exactly what you asked for, but I thought I'd post a link to a good bedding article written by Stan Ware of SGR Custom Rifles. Hope this may be of some help.

Thank you Al. That is a helpful article. I printed it out for reference.

I have a question about wax as a release agent. Would Kiwi shoe wax work as well as Johnson's floor wax? I ask because I have a quantity of it.

Yes, there are many who still prefer the "natural" Kiwi wax to any other wax. The same prep would still apply.

On my last two bedding projects, I used the Hornady "One Shot" Case Lube Spray. Worked great! I used 3 coats with about a 3-minute wait between coats.

Advantages from prior use of wax and agents:
- Prep time
- Spray on is effortless
- **Clean up time is hardly present

dmoran--Now there is a great idea. The only quandry is what to do with the supersize tub of paste wax and the heat gun (i know I posted to use a hair dryer) that I have. Thanks for the neat idea

That IS a great idea. I had ordered some Brownell's release agent, so when that I arrives I will use that, but next time...
I got my barreled action today from John Benjamin and I installed the pillars tonight. The action looked very good and I am anxious to shoot the thing! I used DevconF on the pillars. Wish me luck, as this was my first attempt to use pillars.
