Looking for a 3000fps load with barnes tsx 70gs in .223. I've got some win 748 laying around and magnum primers. Any one of you done this before? Any recommendations on powder? I shoot a 1 in 9 twist bolt gun. Thanks.

Doubt the 70 tsx will stabilize in a 9 twist....62 tsx would prolly be better

I have a friend who lives in Alaska. He caries a M4 .223 on his Snow machine. He asked me to load some 53 grain Barnes X bullets in his .223. They were shoting about 3100fps.
I know he shot a moose at 30 yards just below the ear and it dropped in its tracks. He had complete penetration.
I also know he shot several wolves and dispatched them quickly.
This is not to recomend shooting either species with a .223 but it shows the effectiveness of the barnes solid copper X bullets.

Did some experimenting and ended up with 70gr. tsx 25.5 gr. win 748 CCI 450 winchester brass COAL 2.300". They shoot .7" at 100 and I got a 1" group at 200. I have not chronographed them yet but I killed a nor-cal blacktail this weekend using this load. Shot him through the shoulders at 50 yrds on the run. Full penetration and a nice exit wound. He went 20yrds and dropped dead. Before hunting I had concerns about expansion but was wrong. These bullets performed very well.

Know guys who shoot TSX's all the time...most 9tw guns won't stabilize the 70 tsx or 75 amax....Glad yours will.....got a coupla 8tw's that I'm fixin ta shoot the 75 amax's in.....Am happy with the 53's and 62's. Just drill shoulders and all should be good!!!!!!!
Gotta Model 7 7-08 that shoots the 120 X's(not tsx's)with over 35 1 shot kills on critters....Here's 1
Hopefully the 223ai with the 53's can do this good. Here it is....
