As much as I would like to have it, there is an also new build Savage 6mm Rem in the classified for much cheaper than you can put the gun together for. Timed & trued action, Douglas barrel, SSS trigger, with competition recoil lug..... (Note to self - why I am not buying this rifle!!!!). It would make a wonderful PD gun with the 75 or 87 Vmax. Just a thought.... Tim

lots of good advice already given. How cheap do you need to go? You could just buy a stevens in 223, 204, or 22-250 and put a walmart scope and bipod on it. But if you can afford a little more, I'd find the cheapest used savage w/ an accutrigger in the above calibers you could find. For a scope Natchezss had the Millett 6.5-25x56 scopes for like $160 when I last checked, thats pretty good high-mag glass for so cheap. (I own a couple and have never had a problem)

I read on Savageshooter that McGowen has a good many barrel for sale on there site for cheap. Looks like a big order was made then canceled or something. Might be a good way to save a few bucks.
